| Resumo | In this study, the goal is to explain the maintenance of the jet stream over South America during the winter season based on the analysis of the total Kinetic energy budget through the transversal circulation around the jet stream by the ageostrophic wind. The jet stream for EI Nino and La Nina events, and years without the presence of these two events may be localy mantained by the budget between the kinetic energy generated by the ageostrophic flow and the energy of flux divergence. The transversal direct and indirect circulations are responsible for the conversion of available potential energy into kinetic energy in the entrance regions of the jet stream, and for the conversion of kinetic energy into potencial in the exit regions of the jet stream. The study of those circulations may evidence areas of divergence-convergence both in the high and low troposphere. |
